I’ve always loved ouroboroses and the symbolism behind them. They are serpents or dragons biting their own tail, and represent cycles, rebirth, and such.

Typically ouroboroses are depicted in the shape of a simple circle, but I decided to do something a little different- while it is cropped, the serpent is almost in a figure 8, or an infinity symbol if it were flipped sideways.

Omg how am I going to fill all that up.

My hand hurts

Photo set of my abstract works from this semester. I know I already put these up here like a week ago but I’m really proud of them and thought they deserved another post.

“BARK”

I’m messing with painterly styles again. Also I suddenly have a thing for teeth.

Though that mouth probably isn’t on some sort of dog-like creature, bark seemed to be the most fitting title for it anyway? As opposed to roar, or something similar.

“Still Life I”

A still life from this semester’s work.

Getting things accurate is always a challenge for me. Of course I know what I’m looking at, but my brain always seems to alter the positions of things I try to put it down.

The abstract painting I previously uploaded (link) was based off of this scene.

“Toaster”

This was an abstract from observation painting I did for class.

It started out really busy, but I decided to tone it down a bit. I was feeling inspired by how graffiti (specifically how it gets covered up sometimes) so I selectively painted over some of the painting, leaving some of the original parts poking through.

“In Vein”

This painting is actually really big- 36x36 inches, the biggest piece of art I’ve ever created.

This one was class work too. We were suppose to make an abstract painting using chromatic grays and have one prismatic color anomaly. I think my colors got a bit… weird, though. The teal isn’t as bright as I had wished and the light icy blues are a bit too minty and not gray enough.

“Porcelain”

Another picture made for my Drawing II class. We were to get two different shades of Stonehenge paper (one white, one off-white) and tear and glue pieces of one sheet to the other. Then were were to draw a still life of a sea shell on top of it with ink and charcoal.

I picked a shell that was cracked, thinking it would mimic the torn edges of the paper. I also propped the shell up on an eraser in order to get the angle I wanted. But, because I left out the eraser in the drawing and left the cast shadow where it was, the shell almost appears to levitate.

“Bloody Lung”

This is my favorite abstract piece from this semester.

It was a mixed media project done for my Drawing II class- gouache, ink, charcoal, chalk pastel, and color pencil on Stonehenge paper.

I picked up a bunch of my artwork from class today. Expect to see it sometime soon!
